JOB SUMMARY
Backstage Support Services Ltd. is a full service event staffing and security provider. We are an industry leading labour supplier providing a range of support solutions including stagehands, riggers, catering assistants, production assistants, etc. We are Alberta’s largest licensed event security agency, providing professional event security, crowd management, and personal protection services the province for concerts and special events.
The Recruitment and Retention Manager will be responsible for implementing creative initiatives to attract new part-time casual employees to join our roster, and employ strategies for maintaining our current staffing levels. Specific challenges include the inconsistency of regular work (high and low seasons), and initial cost of provincial licensing and police checks for new recruits.
The Recruitment and Retention Manager will report directly to the Regional Director – Alberta North on all matters.
This is a full-time salaried position that will be based out of the Edmonton branch, starting immediately.

Rachel comes to Backstage from a rich history in event security and crowd management. Starting her career with Showsec International, Europe’s leading supplier of event security and crowd management solutions, she was responsible for managing operations and logistics in the regional office serving South of England and Wales territory.
Rachel moved to Calgary in 2008, and joined the Backstage security team in a part time capacity before accepting a role as Client Services Representative with Ticketmaster Canada where she managed the ticketing for countless events in the Calgary area. With her strong organizational skills, diverse experience behind the scenes at major events, and coordinating over 500 staff for events of all sizes, including UK’s major festivals, Rachel brings the experience and drive Backstage is seeking to tackle the ever-growing demand for its security & labour services. Rachel will support the operation in a variety of key areas, working alongside Jana Bridgewater – Office Manager and will bring welcome relief to the rising challenges of providing security & labour services to a growing marketplace.
In 2010 Backstage Support Services Ltd. was selected as the primary event security company for Camrose, Alberta’s Big Valley Jamboree – supplying over 220 security staff for the iconic multi-day country music festival. Backstage is also excited to be the primary third party supplier of security services to the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede – supplying crowd management and liquor control operations to the massive 10-day event.
Alberta’s new Security Services and Investigators Act went into effect on June 1, 2010, which regulates a much larger portion of the public security sector, implementing industry-wide standards, training requirements, and accountability. Alberta has new licensing procedures for Security guard applicants

The Solicitor General and Alberta Justice have put into place a new application and licensing process. Please go to their website and apply with them first before applying with us. Click the following link for Security Guard Licensing. Once you have completed your application, please fill out our online application by clicking our Employment link and send us your info. And lastly, because of the venues and events we work, you must also get AGLC certification for ProTecT and ProServe, which are accessible by clicking each. We look forward to having you join our team for another busy year at Festivals, Football games, Concerts, The Calgary Stampede and much more!

The Alberta Government is also changing its Security Guard licensing program so if you want to get licensed before individual licensing happens, you must be completed by May 1st. Don’t delay and apply online with us now!

We are proud to say we are the official security supplier to McMahon Stadium for all of the Stampeders football games and the 2009 Grey Cup game.
